The plan is that the hospital should cease as an emergency hospital and instead become a specialised hospital with the opportunity to accept examined acute patients and geriatric patients.
A preliminary analysis has been made for the initiation of a new general plan for the hospital. The preliminary analysis outlines solutions for a modernisation and renovation of the physical frameworks at Svendborg Hospital with a view to entering into the general planning process.
As of February 27 2023, The Regional Council has approved the preliminary analysis as the grounds for the further process of working out a general plan for Svendborg Hospital.
New and extended functions at Svendborg Hospital in the future profile is, among other things, a new center for planned surgery, an extended day hospital, a new center for medical examination, an injury clinic, and a new palliative care unit.
The project is planned to start in Q1 2026 and is expected to be finished in Q2 2028.
Tenders will be sent out for the advisory part concerning preparation of the general plan, however, it is not yet determined which type of contracting or form of tendering, the project will be tendered in.
