LYS1 Aarhus, new sports and cultural center

Aarhus Municipality, The Fund Lyseng Sportscenter, The Common Council 8270 and local sports associations wants to create a culture- and sportscenter with room for both sports facilities, library, citizen service, local archive, cafés, meeting rooms etc.

The project is worked out with the thought of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals and these will be integrated and considered throughout all processes.

The vision for the new center is that the elements from culture and sports must play together and add value to each other, and the project will be called “More for everyone – in one place”. The sportscenter must appeal to all ages and it should be a living place with focus on community and cooperation across the associations. It must be an open and welcoming place where there is room for calmness and contemplation, however, at the same time it should also create dynamic and pulsating frameworks for meetings between people.

The new buildings are constructed in extension of the existing Lyseng Sportscenter, however, in connection with this, a clarification of the traffical matters must be made. In order for the project to be realised, a new local plan must also be made. The local planning process is begun and the expectation is that a new local plan will be ready mid 2026.

The Salling Funds has donated a double-digit million amount to the sports part and Aarhus Municipality has also granted subsidies to the project from their construction pool for sports, leisure, and outdoor facilities.

The project planning is in process and it is expected that the total contract can be sent to tender at the turn of the year 2024/2025.

The construction is expected to be begun in Q2 2025 and will be finished in Q2 2028.
