Herning Vand A/S, new waterworks

The plan for the waterworks has been put into motion with the wish of a durable waterworks with the necessary capacity – both now and in 50 years.

The board of Herning Vand A/S has decided on the following plan for the current three waterworks:

• Nordre Vandværk, established in 1966 is to be closed down after 62 years of operation in 2028, when the new waterworks in Løvbakkerne is ready.
• Østre Vandværk, established in 1976 is presumably to be closed down after 52 years of operation in 2028, when the new waterworks in Løvbakkerne is ready.
• Vestre Vandværk, established in 1995 is probably not to be closed down until after 48 years of operation in 2043.

During 2023, Herning Vand, in collaboration with Herning Municipality, worked out a plan for long-term groundwater protection in order to avoid extended water treatment. The plan points to necessary stakes for the coming 10-15 years – as an example, a partnership about afforestation.

The Town Planning and Settlement Committee in Herning Municipality has approved the new local plan for a new waterworks in Løvbakkerne by Gullestrup.

The construction is expected to begin in Q2 2025 and is set to be finished in Q4 2026.
